Joe Burgess "buzzing" to sign new Hull KR deal as winger rewarded for red-hot form

In-form Joe Burgess says it was a "no-brainer" to sign a new deal with Hull KR.

The Robins have revealed the former England winger has penned a two-year contract that keeps him at Sewell Group Craven Park until at least the end of 2026. Burgess was

surprisingly sacked by Salford in January for off-field matters but KR quickly gave him a 12 month deal and he's made the most of his chance. With seven tries in just six games for Willie Peters' side, it was obvious they would look to extend the ex-South Sydney star's stay.

Ahead of facing former club Wigan on Friday, Burgess, 29, said: "I’m buzzing to be staying for two more years. I’ve been trying my hardest since I’ve started to get that. I’m really happy living over here and playing for this club: it was a no-brainer once the offer was made, I wanted to get it signed, sealed and delivered.

"Hull KR's pushing for success and it’s a real drive for the club and for me. It’s definitely a club on the up and that’s on the back of the great work being done on the field by the players and coaching staff and off it too with the board and back office. We are have a good culture here, from the boys to our kit man, Bonesy (Alan Fellows). Everyone’s working towards the same goal and that’s the attraction of the club."

Since making his debut, Burgess has been in red hot form in the league and cup and solidifying a new exciting partnership with Peta Hiku on the Robins' right edge. Burgess flied over for the opener in the 24-12 win against Huddersfield before marking his first Hull Derby with a double against Hull in the Robins' 32-10 Good Friday. In the Challenge Cup, he crossed for the third try in the Robins’ convincing 40-0 win over Salford before bagging a double to help down Leigh and set up a semi-final against Wigan.

With veteran England winger returning to Leeds in 2025, Rovers needed to strengthen their win options and Peters said: "Joe (Burgess) is going to be a key player for us over the next couple of seasons. We were fortunate Joe became available in January and he’s worked extremely hard to earn this new extension with the club. An area we wanted to bring in to the club was more speed and Joe certainly brings that. Our fans saw a glimpse of that against Leigh a couple of weeks back. Joe’s a really well-liked character within the group and I look forward to working with him over the next couple of seasons."
