Allen NExT Implements Layoffs, Over 60 People Fired From Their Jobs In This Department - Details

Allen Career Institute's medical test preparation wing, Allen NExT, has reportedly undergone significant restructuring, leading to the loss of 60-70 jobs in its sales department since December. According to The Economic Times report, sources within the organisation revealed that layoffs have been widespread across multiple centers including Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Panchkula.

Additionally, offline teaching operations have been halted.

The downsizing has seen the employee count at Allen NExT plummet to a mere 30 individuals as of mid-April. Most of the affected employees were hired between January and July of 2023.

The report added that changes in top management last September preceded a drastic reduction in course prices, with fees slashed from Rs 45,999 to Rs 3,000 in January.

However, discontent among students has surfaced regarding the course's efficacy and technical issues with the app. Complaints include inadequate course material for exams like NEET PG, with some expressing disappointment over the course's content and functionality.

Furthermore, employees allege a shift towards stricter sales metrics monitoring and a cessation of hiring since November. This has coincided with a series of forced resignations, with 10-15 employees being asked to leave monthly.

Allen NExT faces stiff competition from platforms like PrepLadder and Marrow, prompting the institute to embark on a digital transformation journey. Allen Career Institute, established in 1988, has sought to bolster its online presence to rival industry giants like Unacademy. The institute attracted a USD 600 million investment in 2022 from Bodhi Tree Systems, which now holds a 36 per cent stake.

However, despite these efforts, challenges persist, with student dissatisfaction and internal restructuring casting shadows over the institute's future trajectory. Requests for comment from Allen Career Institute regarding these developments remain unanswered.
