Viral Video: Watch This Adorable Video Proving Bears Are Tree-Climbing Pros, Myth Busted

Trending News: In the world of wild animals, there's a common idea that bears can't climb trees. People often think if they see a bear, they should run to a tree and climb up to safety. But this might not be the best idea. Bears can actually climb trees quite well, especially Indian black bears.

A video shared on X by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan showed just how good bears are at climbing.

In the video, a mother bear carefully comes down a tree with her baby bear. Then, the little bear climbs back up before following its mom. Kaswan shared the video with a caption that said, "You all must have heard the story of how a friend saved his life from Bear by climbing a tree. Here is a Himalayan Black Bear mother and cub showing how our childhood was a lie!! Captured this yesterday." This video quickly received over 55k views and 2k likes.

The clip also shows that black bears are good at fighting in trees. They often have fights while climbing. The bear at the bottom usually has the advantage because it's easier to hit upwards. Netizens had loads to say about the video. One user remembered their own tree-climbing adventures as a child, mentioning mango, jackfruit, and other trees they used to climb. They wrote, “Great, very interesting. In our childhood we used to climb almost all trees in our area. Mainly mangoes, Jackfruit, Citrus, Tamarind and wild jackfruit. It’s enjoyable to jump from a tree to the river waters.”

Another person joked about the story of "Ballu" from the Jungle Book, saying bears can indeed climb trees easily. They commented, “Unless it is “Ballu” from Jungle book, all bears can climb up easily…Sometimes they fetch Honeycomb at the very top of large trees. Let the bed time story be as it is.”

But someone disagreed with Kaswan, saying there's no proof that bears attack people who climb trees. They argued that things can change in the animal kingdom and nothing is set in stone. They wrote, “How is it a lie? Have you sir seen any story, any proof that any bear killed any person by riding the tree? There are several contradictory examples in the animal kingdom. Nothing is permanent.”
