Hollyoaks star Rita Simons opens up about secret health battle that left her 'without an identity'

Rita Simons has opened up about her health battle that left her with so much anxiety.

The Hollyoaks star - who is also know to soap fans as Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders - has detailed her health struggles in an emotional episode of Drama Queens, where she explained she has taken a new look on her health.

The soap star said she is "all about wellness and detox" now and has turned her back on partying and nights out.

She explained she had a nervous breakdown, which led to her being very unkind to herself for a "long time".

Speaking about her health, she said: "I used to be a real party girl and now I'm old and boring I'm all about wellness and detox and the only thing I've got to do is try and stop drinking gin. Because I partied for so long when I was younger then I went through a hideous time, I went through a little bit of a nervous breakdown and a horrible divorce, I was unkind to myself for a long time.

"I am now on a mission to purify myself and be the best version I can be now I'm in menopause. I had a hysterectomy in January of 2023. I had the hysterectomy because I had for years and years and years, really painful period pains and I was getting older the gap in between was getting shorter and my anxiety that I was getting every month was getting bigger."

She received a colonic irrigation on Drama Queens tonight, where she opened up about her secret health battle. Rita was having painful periods, which would leave her with so much anxiety.

"I was starting to say to my agent 'Don't book me for work that day because I'm due on. Don't book me for that day, I'm ovulating. I don't book me for that day. I'll be leaking. Sorry to be gross by it's true. Leaking blood everywhere," she said.

"I mean, it was just a joke. I'd be on stage and I'd be like, oh, I need to get off the stage. I'm leaking. When the doctor says hysterectomy to you, you're like, so in order for me to be well, I'm going to have to forgo that part of my identity. That is, I'm a woman and I can carry a baby and I'm fertile and I'm young. I can't stress enough I has been the best thing I've done."
