10 hurt during Ponnani march in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Ten persons, including policemen, were injured after protest marches conducted by the Youth Congress and the Bharathiya Janatha Yuva Morcha , demanding the resignation of the chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) at Perumbadappu near Ponnani , turned violent on Tuesday.

The marches to the house of M K Sakeer were taken out in the backdrop of the accused in the stabbing case securing top ranks in the selection test to police battalions.



When police blocked the march near to the chairman's house, the protesters attempted to cross the barricades leading to a clash. The police arrested and removed 20 protesters who staged a sit-in on the road.

Earlier, state secretary of the Youth Congress Sidhique Panthavoor inaugurated the protest march. He said the PSC has been including ineligible candidates in the rank list and demanded that a criminal case should be registered against the chairperson.

He has also demanded a CBI inquiry on the appointments made during the tenure of the existing administrative council of PSC.
