100% results in Tulu for five years straight, helps Dakshina Kannada to achieve good pass percentage

MANGALURU: With just 18 students enrolling in the first year of its implementation in 2014, Tulu , a third and optional language in schools in undivided Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has made a remarkable journey, and students who took it got cent per cent results for five years straight in SSLC .

This year as many as 617 students have appeared for the exam and all of them have passed with a good percentage .

In undivided DK district, as many as 41 schools teach Tulu as an optional language from class 8 to 10. Among them, 617 SSLC candidates from 34 schools had appeared for the examination and all of them have passed. Due to this good performance by students in Tulu, it has not only become one of the scoring subjects, but also helped in improving the pass percentage of the district to a large extent.

A C Bhandary, chairman, Tulu Sahitya Academy, said that out of 617 candidates, 63 students have scored 100 out of 100. “Both Udupi and DK students have done well in their Tulu examination, and it is reflected in increase in pass percentage. However, apart from students, people who made this happen are officials of the department public instruction, the school which took up Tulu as an optional subject, and teachers,” said Bhandary. “With this success, Tulu Sahitya Academy will give more stress to Tulu teaching in schools in coming days.”

On March 26, 2010, the state government allowed schools in undivided Dakshina Kannada to teach Tulu from class six. The first batch of 18 students with Tulu as the third optional language passed out in SSLC-2015. It was followed by the number going up to 25 in 2016 and 283 in 2017. In 2018, the number rose to 417 students from 22 schools and this year to 617 students.
