11 held for duping Patan farmer of Rs 25 lakh

Palanpur: Eleven persons including two women of a gang , who had duped a Patan farmer of Rs 25 lakh by honey trapping him, were arrested on Wednesday.

The local crime branch of Patan led by police sub-inspector Y K Jhala also recovered Rs 15.46 lakh from the accused. Three members of gang were still on the run.

Dahya Patel (59), had received a call in July from one of the accused woman who introduced herself as Mahi. She again contacted Patel on August 3 offering to make him happy and asked him to meet her at the court complex.

When Patel met the woman, her five accomplices forced Patel into a car at knife-point and took him to the canal area and robbed him of his gold chain and Rs 880 cash that he had with him. His ordeal did not end there. Patel was stripped naked and the act was recorded on mobile phone with the woman by his side by the accused. Using the video clip the accused managed to fleece Patel of Rs 25 lakh.

Those arrested include Chirag Luhar of Ahmadabad, Thakor Ashokji and two women Sonal Thakor who would make phone calls as Mahi and one Shabana who met Patel as Mahi.
