11 more contract Covid in Manipur, total count 1,593

IMPHAL: Covid-19 cases in Manipur rose to 1,593 as 11 people, including six women, tested positive for the virus at the VRDL of RIMS in Imphal and the newly launched laboratory at Jiribam district bordering Assam in the past 24 hours.

With 843 patients being discharged from Covid care centres , 11 of them since Friday night, the total number of active cases in the state stands at 750, a state health department statement said on Saturday, adding that the recovery rate was 52.91%.



The newly infected persons are residents of Imphal West, Jiribam and Ukhrul and they would be shifted to Covid care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures such as contact tracing and containment have been taken up, said the statement signed by the department's additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang .

Meanwhile, the tenth sector of the Assam Rifles' Chassad battalion on Saturday distributed solar lamps to a quarantine centre at Kamjong district. For residents of Kamjong district, the quarantine centre had to be set up in a restricted time frame, leading to the isolation facility lacking basic amenities such as electricity and water supply, said an Assam Rifles statement.

Since past two to three months, the returnees, who are being quarantined, were facing lot of hardships due to power cuts. Looking at improving their living conditions, the civil administration approached Assam Rifles for a better solution and to alleviate the hardships of the villagers in Kamjong quarantine centre, the rifles distributed 50 solar lamps to the centre, it added.

The event was organised at Chassad police station in the presence of the district's SP Ningam Siro, chief medical officer Rangla James and other officials. "All the members of the civil administration expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the sincere efforts undertaken by Assam Rifles for lighting up the facility as well as hopes which had been in dark since long," the statement added.
