12 booked for attacking Patiala resident with sharp weapons

Patiala: As many as 12 persons have been booked by Patiala police for attacking a local resident with sharp-edged weapons.

The police said five accused had been identified and others would be identified soon and arrested. The incident took place on August 15 when the victim, identified as Goni of Shahi Samadha, was attacked by the accused.

A case has been registered on the complaint of Goni, but the police have been silent on the issue and seem unwilling to disclose the details about reasons behind the attack.

The five accused have been identified as Mohit, Sandeep, Jattu, Cheeku and Shonki, all residents of Patiala city.

The police said the complainant had alleged that all the five accused along with eight others had attacked him and his family members in his house on Thursday night.

The police said the complainant only stated that he and his family members were attacked by the accused.

“The complainant is unfit to give a statement. We will succeed only after all the accused are identified and the reason of the attack is known. We will be able to find out the truth only after the arrest of all the accused. Five of the 13 accused have been identified. We are conducting raids to nab them,” said ASI Kuldip Singh, investigation officer in the case.

He said the complainant was admitted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

The police said the accused allegedly rushed into the house of the complainant and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons.

“The complainant’s mother and his cousin were also present in the house. The family members were also injured by the accused in an attempt to save Goni, who was being beaten up by the accused. The neighbours also gathered, but the accused managed to escape. The injured were rushed to the government hospital,” said the police.

A case has been registered at Kotwali police station under sections 458 (house-trespass at night to cause hurt), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting & armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (unlawful assembly with common objective) of IPC. The police are investigating the matter.
