14 arrested for bid to free Mokama MLA's aide

PATNA: Police arrested 14 people from Mokama roundabout in Barh sub-division on Tuesday night on charges of attempting to free Mokama MLA Anant Singh’s close aide Ranveer Singh Yadav from police custody. An FIR was lodged with Mokama police station in this connection.

Police also seized six SUVs and a motorcycle from Anant’s supporters who were following two police vehicles carrying Ranveer to Pandarak police station.

Ranveer had surrendered when police were attaching his property at Gulab Bagh village under the Barh police station area on Tuesday.

The MLA, Ranveer, his brother Lallu Mukhiya and five others were made named accused in an FIR lodged with Pandarak police station on July 15 this year for alleged plot to kill Bhola Singh and his brother Mukesh Singh. The police had earlier arrested four contract killers allegedly hired by Anant to kill Singh brothers.

Barh ASP Lipi Singh told TOI over the phone that station house officers of Pandarak, Hathidah and Salimpur police stations were travelling in two police vehicles when they came under attack from Ranveer’s relatives and supporters at the roundabout.
