15 'pink' booths for Mansa

Mansa: To promote women’s participation in the May 19 parliamentary elections in Punjab, the Mansa district administration has decided to set up 15 all-woman polling booths — five each in the three assembly segments falling under it.

At the booths, everyone would be a woman, be it voters, polling staff or security personnel.

The assembly segments of Mansa, Budhlada and Sardulgarh fall in Mansa district and come under Bathinda parliamentary constituency. Mansa deputy commissioner Apneet Riyait, who is the district election officer for Mansa, said the administration wanted more women to come out of their homes to exercise their right to vote. The booths have been named “pink booths” and are aimed at ensuring that women feel secure while voting, she said.

The district administration will also set up five model polling booths in each of the three assemblys eats where services would be provided as per instructions of the Election Commission.

Mansa has 5.8 lakh voters. Of them, 4.3 belong to rural areas.
