15 transgenders to tie the knot in Raipur on March 30, CM to do kanyadaan

RAIPUR: Transgenders have been greeting, blessing and dancing in marriage ceremonies, but on March 30, a unique event will be held in Chhattisgarh 's capital where 15 transgender people will tie the nuptial knot. Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel is expected to perform the 'kanyadaan' ceremony.


Calling it as a step towards gender equality, a transgender, Vidya Rajput, said that the event is being organized by a producer of the Chitragahi Films of Mumbai and that transgenders from different states would tie knot during the event.



Excited about the initiative, Rajput said that it was a step to authenticate their love lives which were never valued. "It's for the first time in history that 15 transgenders would get married to men as part of a mass marriage at the two-day event on March 29 and 30. There are six couples from Chhattisgarh's Raipur , Korba, Raigarh and Durg while others are coming from Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal," Rajput said.
