16 get life sentence for double murder in a Hisar village

Hisar: A Hisar court on Thursday sentenced 16 persons to life imprisonment in a double murder case of a woman and her son. Three persons were acquitted and one accused died during the hearing of the case.

The additional sessions judge Seema Singhal also imposed a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh each on convicts. Barwala police had registered a case on March 14, 2014, on the complaint of Suresh Kumar, a resident of Balak village of Hisar, under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 449 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death), 450 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life) and 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) against about 35 persons.



Complainant Suresh’s mother, 50-year-old Sugana Devi, and brother, 30-year-old Kuldeep, died on the spot while another brother Surendra, who was an eyewitness, was injured.

After investigation, police submitted chargesheet against 20 persons and court convicted brothers Ishwar, Subhash and Rajendra, Ishwar’s sons Sumit and Amit, brothers Ramesh Kumar, Vijay and Anil, brothers Virendra and Sushil, brothers Shamsher and Rajbir, Satbir, Rakesh and Sushil alias Sheelu. Rakesh’s father Balbir and Virender and Sushil’s father Inderpal and one Nihal Singh were acquitted by the court while one accused Binder died during the trial.

In the complaint given to the police, Suresh had said his nephew (sister’s son) Devender alias Chintu, a resident of Hansi, stayed with him. On January 31, 2014, Devender along with his associates killed 22-year-old Sonu, a resident of Balak.

“On the day of the incident at around 6pm, I was in a room downstairs in my house. My mother Sugana Devi was cooking in the kitchen upstairs and brother Kuldeep was sitting with her on a chair. My younger brother Surendra was sitting in the front house. More than three dozen people come with pistols to our house and started firing indiscriminately as soon as they arrived. My mother was hit by two-three bullets and Kuldeep by three-four bullets. Surendra was also hit by three-four bullets. My mother and Kuldeep died on the spot,” Suresh stated in his complaint.
