162 new +ve cases in J&K; Valley reports two deaths

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday registered highest ever one-day spike with 162 new corona positive cases — 124 from the Kashmir valley and 38 from the Jammu division. With 162 new cases, Covid tally has reached 1,921.


With two more deaths on Wednesday, 26 persons have died due to the virus in J&K so far. As many as 23 patients have lost their lives in the Kashmir valley and three in the Jammu province.


One among the victims is a 70-year-old man from Anantnag, who died on Tuesday at the GMC, Anantnag, and his report came positive after his death. The man was suffering from pneumonia. Another Covid victim was a resident of Srinagar, who had tested positive earlier this month and died today.


J&K witnessed 162 fresh positive cases. Twentyone positive cases — five from Jammu and 16 from the Valley — have been cured and discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.


Twentyseven positive cases were reported from Kulgam, 26 from Kupwara and 20 from Srinagar in the Kashmir valley.


Udhampur and Poonch districts saw 11 positive cases today, Jammu district four, Kathua and Reasi districts three each. On Tuesday, three air travellers, 10 train passengers and five Army men tested positive in Jammu district.


“All are in administrative quarantine. The administration’s proactive move of 100 per cent sampling and testing seems to be working fine in identifying cases,” says Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Sushma Chouhan.
