17 booked for thrashing cops in East Champaran

MOTIHARI: Chakiya police have lodged an FIR on Thursday against 17 named persons and 60 unidentified persons from Balochak village based on the statement of assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Chakiya police station, who along with three special auxiliary police (SAP) jawans, were thrashed by a mob on Wednesday.

ASI Sharma, who is undergoing treatment for head injuries at SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, in his statement said the accused had looted his cellphone, Rs 2,500 cash and attacked him and the SAP jawans. He and the SAP jawans were held captive for two hours by the mob and the police jeep was also vandalised, the ASI said.

While police have arrested four accused—Samira Khatoon, Afjal, Nur Hasan and Ibadat—and remanded them in judicial custody, rest of the accused are absconding.

It may be mentioned here that on Wednesday night, ASI Sharma along with the three SAP jawans had gone to the house of one Abid Mian at Balochak village in connection with a complaint lodged by the latter on Wednesday about an abandoned two-wheeler near his house.

But as soon as the police team reached the village, relatives of Abid raised an alarm saying the cops were child-lifters. Soon locals started thrashing the cops. SDPO Chakiya with additional police force rescued them from the clutches of mob after two hours.
