17-year-old girl gang-raped in Tripura's Khowai, 10 arrested

New Delhi:  In a shameful incident reported from Tripura, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Khowai district of the state. The girl was gang-raped by five men. 

Police have now arrested 10 accused in the case. Of them, three have been arrested for violating the girl and the rest were nabbed for abetting the crime and sheltering the accused. 

According to a report in Hindi daily Dainik Tribune, the crime took place on July 21 in the forest area of Khasiamangal in Tripura. 

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the two associates of the accused were arrested from different places in Sipahijala district.

According to police, two other accused are still absconding and a hunt has been launched to nab them. 

Meanwhile, a students' group has called for fast and strict punishment in such heinous cases. Tripura University student Asmira Deb Verma has formed a group 'Stand Against Rape' and called on people to raise their voices against rapes.
