18-year-old boy trying to evade cops drowns in Dungarpur lake

Jaipur: A teenager drowned in a lake in Dungarpur while trying to escape from the police, which had caught him drinking alcohol in a public place. Family members of the deceased, whose body has already been recovered, have demanded an inquiry into the matter.

Dungarpur SP Jai Yadav said, “The police during a routine patrol saw the three youths including 18-year-old Sudhav drinking liquor.

While one was served a challan, two others managed to flee. Hours later a local saw Sudhav’s body floating in the lake. He immediately called others for help to take it out of water. His blood test revealed that he had alcohol in his system.”

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased alleged that he died due to police carelessness and that the matter should be investigated. “The family blamed police for Sudhav’s death,” the SP added.

“However, cops were nowhere close to the spot where the teen’s body was found. He drowned in a lake, which was overflowing due to the recent rains. We explained it to the family and they have also understood the point. Since they have asked for an inquiry into the role of the police, we will look into the matter,” the SP added.

Sudhav’s kin have demanded compensation saying that he was the only child of his parents. “The family has requested if we can provide them any financial help. We sympathise with the family and are looking at all possible to help them financially,” Yadav said. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
