2 BJP candidates win unopposed from two assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh: Ram Madhav

GUWAHATI: BJP general secretary and party in-charge for Northeast India, Ram Madhav on Tuesday claimed that two candidates of BJP have won unopposed from two assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh.

Madhav tweeted,” Victory March of BJP starts from Arunachal Pradesh: Sir Kento Jini has won (uncontested) from Alo East constituency.

Another victory also from Arunachal Pradesh: Er Taba Tedir won unopposed from 16 Yachuli Assembly segment. (These two victories are for Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, which goes to polls together with parliament on 11 April).”

However district election officer (DEO) of Lower Subansari, Chukku Takar told ET, “We have fixed hearing date on March 27. Some objection is raised is with papers. So there is no declaration of any kind yet.”

Aalo East assembly is in West Siang district, DEO of the district, Swetika Sachan told ET, “One candidate Kento Jini’s nomination has been found valid. However any declaration will be made after March 28. The last date of withdrawal of nomination is March 28.”

In 2014 congress won 11 assembly seats unopposed which included the seat of than chief minister, Nabam Tuki.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu at the concluding session of the three-day Yuva Sammelan organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in September last year stated that he is against the trend of candidates being elected unopposed in parliamentary or assembly elections asserting that such culture is against the democratic spirit.

He referred to previous 2014 assembly elections when 11 MLA candidates from Arunachal were elected unopposed, the Chief Minister said that such trend must stop and called for elections instead of direct nominations in every constituency with full democratic process.

Meanwhile organisation, Legal Rights Observatory have moved Election commission complaining against Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council for appealing voters on religious ground in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Christian body on March 4, had issued on its letterhead an ‘order’ to “support Khyoda Apik as Lok Sabha candidate in the coming Lok Sabha elections west parliamentary constituency”.

Apik is contesting on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket.“So on the basis of the resolution passed, the APCRCC along with rest of the Christian communities is hereby requested to all the concerned district councils to support in favour of Khyoda Apik…in prayer as well as in all possible helps…,” the order said.
