2 cheat youths with job offers, arrested

Ghaziabad: Two persons were arrested from the vicinity of EDM in Kaushambi on Sunday night for allegedly cheating people under the pretext of giving them jobs abroad. The police recovered 27 passports, two PAN cards, one cheque book and one four-wheeler from the accused.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Manoj Kumar (32) and Jasvir Singh (38), both of whom are from Delhi.

“The accused took Rs 1 lakh from each person and procured over Rs 1 crore from them. They have been active since 2011 and the first case was registered against them in 2011 in Delhi under IPC section of cheating, passport Act and IT Act,” a police officer said. Aparna Gautam, the circle officer of Indirapuram, told TOI that in December 2018, the police received a complaint about some unidentified persons who allegedly opened an office in the name of Elite Core Solution in Shipra Azure Apartment in Kaushambi and cheated people by offering them jobs online.

“The accused sent emails to the people regarding jobs abroad and asked them to deposit money in their bank accounts or give cash. After taking the money, they would change their location and mobile numbers frequently to avoid detection,” she added. Gautam said the matter came to light when the first complaint was made at Indirapuram police station in December 2018. “After that, the police closely watched their movements. When the team was sure the miscreants were involved in illegal activities, we nabbed them,” she added.

The accused have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged document). They were produced in court on Monday and sent to jail.
