2 dead, 2 hurt while mining sand in Tuni

TUNI: Two men died and two others were severely injured while excavating sand from the river bed of East Godavari district’s Thandava river on Monday.


The tragic incident took place when four workers were excavating sand from the Thandava river bed and loading them on to four bullock carts. While the work was on, the top soil gave way and the four workers were buried under the sand.

People in the neighbourhood rushed to the four drivers’ rescue and could rescue two of them. The two deceased were identified as Anaparthi Srinivas Kumar (40) and Sathi Babu (55), hailing from Tuni town. The injured were rushed to the hospital while the bodies were shifted by cops for a postmortem.
