2 women beaten up in Faridkot; Punjab Women Commission summons cops

BATHINDA: Taking strong of the incident where two dalit women were beaten up by a couple of men at Kotkapura town of Faridkot district on Thursday, the Punjab State Commission for Women has directed the concerned police officers to appear before it on July 12 with a copy of FIR and the relevant records of the accused persons.



The accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh and his nephew Jaswinder Singh, are at large after the incident. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been lodged against the accused.

The victims run a shop in the area where the incident took place. As per the complaint lodged by the women with the Kotkapura city police, they had gone to their shop on Thursday morning when both the accused arrived there and started throwing away articles and asked them to vacate the shop which they had taken on rent. A video of the incident shows both the women being physically assaulted by the accused.

Faridkot SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu said that, “The case pertains to dispute over possession of shop at Kotkapura. A case under Section 379 (theft), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and SC/ST Act has been registered against both. Raids are being conducted at various places to arrest them."
