2010 stadium blast case: HC rejects habeas corpus plea seeking release of a convict
BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has rejected the habeas corpus petition seeking immediate release of Gauhar Aziz Khomani, a convict in the April 2010 twin blasts near Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
Hassan Aziz Amir, a resident of Darbhanga district in Bihar , had filed this petition claiming that jail authorities have not properly computed the period of sentence undergone by his brother Khomani.
According to him, the same amounts to illegal detention.
However, a division bench headed by Justice KN Phaneendra noted that habeas corpus plea is not the proper route to challenge such contentions.
The bench also directed the petitioner to approach the trial court for necessary relief.
This was after the court was told that the special court had already convicted the brother of the petitioner along with others on various charges in relation April 17, 2010 blasts during the IPL season.
