23 trains hit as goods train wagon derails

Vadodara: As many as 17 trains on the UP line towards Mumbai were cancelled, two trains were partially cancelled and four others diverted as a wagon of a goods train derailed between Samlaya and Pilol section of Vadodara railway division early on Friday morning.

The goods train got derailed at around 9.19 am as a front trolley of a fifth wagon derailed on the section.

According to officials, the goods train which had started its journey from Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s Agra facility was carrying furnace oil to IOCL’s Mumbai facility.

As the wagon got derailed, the furnace oil spilled over the tracks. “The broken axle wagon had started moving with the support of rail skate and the section has been cleared. But since the sleepers have also got affected, the movement on the UP line has been affected,” said Khemraj Meena, public relations officer of Vadodara railway division, adding that efforts to restore the section for train movement are being carried out in full swing.

A majority of express trains were moving through the down line. Since only one line was in use, the trains were moving slowly on both the directions.

The 14 trains which got cancelled on Friday included memu trains between Godhra and milk city Anand, Anand and Dakor, Anand and Gandhinagar, Dahod and Vadodara and Dahod and Ratlam on both the sides.

Three trains scheduled on Saturday too have been cancelled. These include Gandhinagar-Anand memu, Anand-Dahod memu and Dahod-Vadodara memu while two other trains were partially cancelled.

While Valsad-Dahod superfast express which was scheduled on Friday was partially cancelled between Vadodara and Dahod, Dahod-Valsad superfast express which was scheduled on Friday was partially cancelled between Dahod and Vadodara.

Three trains including Bandra Terminus-Kanpur Central Express which had started its journey on Thursday was diverted via Vadodara-Anand-Godhra route. Similarly, Gorakhpur-Okha Express which had also departed on Thursday was diverted via Godhra-Dakor-Anand route while Kamakhya-Gandhidham Express which had departed on Wednesday was diverted via Godhra-Dakor-Anand route.

Bandra Terminus-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Swaraj Express was diverted via Bajwa-Anand-Godhra route.
