23-year-old held for raping infant in Bharatpur

JAIPUR: A 23-year-old youth who allegedly raped a one-and-half-year-old infant on Thursday was arrested by Bhusawar police in Bharatpur on Friday. The youth, who is a neighbour of the child, allegedly raped her under the pretext of babysitting her during Holi festivities. The infant was referred to a hospital in Bharatpur owing to injuries in her private parts.

The youth has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

On the day of Holi, the accused identified as Chotu took the infant from her house. “The accused took the infant from her grandmother claiming that he just wanted to play with her. Since he was their neighbour, the grandmother did not raise any objections. However, when the crime came to light, the family immediately caught hold of Chotu. Later, we arrested him. He worked as a labourer,” SHO, Bhusawar police station, told TOI. The infant was bleeding profusely and was rushed to a hospital. She was referred to a hospital in Bharatpur where she is undergoing treatment.

“When the infant’s family caught the accused and were taking him to the police station, he ran away with the help of his relatives. Later, we found Chotu and arrested him. There is no evidence that he raped the child under the influence of alcohol. We are talking to the survivor’s family. Her medical examination was done and her condition is stable,” he added.

The accused has been booked under Section 3/4.
