24 hurt, 4 critical in Agra-Lucknow expressway accident

Agra: At least 24 passengers were injured, with four in critical condition, after a speeding private bus heading towards national capital region (NCR) from Madhogarh of Jalaun district collided with a truck on Agra-Lucknow expressway late on Sunday.

The accident occurred at milestone “42.700” of Matsena police jurisdiction, Firozabad district.

Police said the speeding bus rammed into a truck from behind.

Station house officer (SHO) of Matsena, Rajesh Kumar, said, “The accident occurred around 12:30 am, after a speeding private bus collided with a truck. It seems that the bus driver, who is yet to be identified, supposedly fell asleep behind the steering wheel. Four passengers are in critical condition, while 20 others have sustained minor injuries.”

“The bus was coming from Jalaun. It was carrying passengers from Auraiya, Mainpuri, Etawah, Jalaun and Kanpur dehat. The injured have been referred to a district government hospital. No written complaint has been received yet,” the SHO added.

Notably, two days ago, four members of a Delhi-based family were killed in a road accident on the same expressway. The Delhi residents, including a three-year-old girl, were travelling in a SUV and were on their way to Etawah district to distribute wedding cards. The accident had occurred around 12:15 pm near milestone 32 of Fatehabad police limits in Agra district.

While on October 29, one person was killed and three injured when a truck rammed into a car near milestone 95 on the Agra-Lucknow expressway in Mainpuri district.

Incidentally, more than 280 people have lost their lives on this important highway since it was commissioned in December 2016.
