25-year-old taekwondo player shot dead in Gurugram

Gurgaon: A 25-year-old district-level Taekwondo player was shot dead early on Tuesday morning in Bilaspur Kalan .

Sarita’s family has alleged that an athlete named Sombir, who was training to be a coach , is behind the murder as Sarita had refused to marry him. On Tuesday, Sombir had come to meet Sarita at 1 am, police said, adding that the crime took place around 4:30 am.

A search is on for the accused, who is absconding .

While Sarita hailed from Bhoa Khurd and had won a gold medal in Taekwondo, Sombir was from Jhajjar.

Police said that the two had met in 2013 at a training camp for coaches in Rohtak and later got engaged .

However, Sarita had been opposing the marriage which had led to differences between the two, they added.

Police suspect it to be the motive behind the murder.

On the basis of the complaint by Sarita’s family, an FIR has been registered against Sombir under IPC sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death). A forensic team is inspecting the crime scene and the post-mortem report is awaited, said police.

“We received a call at the control room in the morning that Sarita had been shot. We immediately sent a team to the spot. The family has accused Sombir of killing her. We are investigating the matter and will only be able to reveal the details after investigation,” said ACP Pritpal.

TOI had earlier reported that Sarita had filed a complaint against Sombir at Bilaspur police station in August this year alleging sexual harassment and stalking.

After their meeting in 2013, the two became friends and kept in touch.

However, she had alleged, Sombir had started forcing her to marry him and she had refused. After this, she told cops, he had been threatening her and her family since several months.

An FIR had then been registered under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe a woman), 305 (abetment to suicide), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and under sections of the Arms Act.

However, no further action had been taken against Sombir.
