3-day BJP meet begins for selecting LS candidates

Gandhinagar: The state BJP parliamentary board at the beginning of their three-day long discussion on Sunday received numerous complaints about all sitting MPs while discussing their claims for another term.

The board comprised state Lok Sabha election in-charge and national vice-president of BJP Om Mathur, state BJP president Jitu Vaghani, chief minister Vijay Rupani, deputy CM Nitin Patel, and others.

The meeting was held at the CM’s bungalow.

A key member of the board said, “Today claims of 11 seats — Vadodara, Bharuch, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Valsad, Navsari, Bardoli, Surat Anand and Kheda were discussed. On all these seats, from three to around 15 party men have demanded tickets. Observers in their report informed that there is significant opposition against almost all the sitting MPs.”

One Vadodara observer said, ‘Workers want PM Narendra Modi as the candidate. Observers were also informed about likely issues that may have to be faced on different seats.”

The board discussed caste and other equations as well as likely candidates the Congress party may put against BJP candidates in each seat. “The board discussed thoroughly the pros and cons of repeating the sitting MPs. It will now prepare and send its report to the central parliamentary board of BJP after remaining seats are discussed,’’ said an observer.
