3 live mortar shells found in Samba

Three mortar shells (81 mm) were found near a stream at a village in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The police said they came to know about the incident at around 7 am when locals alerted them about some suspicious object in Sangwali Morh in the Ghagwal area along the Jammu-Pathankot Highway.

Immediately, the police cordoned off the area to neutralise the shells with the help of a bomb disposal squad of the police and Army. Later, the shells were defused successfully.
“We are not clear from where these shells came but it looks like a miss fire during the practice as the firing range is very near to the area, but the picture will be clear only after proper investigation is conducted.” The police said.
