KADAPA: As many as 30 camels were rescued in Kadapa by animal welfare groups from Hyderabad, including the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GHSPCA), Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh (BPMS) and Gau Gyan Foundation (GGF).

The camels, that were brought to Kadapa from Rajasthan for slaughter purpose, were rescued on August 1.

With the help of the district additional superintendent Srinivas Reddy and the BSF, the rescued camels were then shifted to an animal shelter, Chaitra Gaushala, in Karnataka. On orders from Kadapa district collector Hari Kiran, the camels are being sent back to Rajasthan. Seven trucks with food and medication will be part of the transportation process, which will cost about ₹5 lakh. The transportation process began on Thursday. “An FIR for 150 camels was lodged but only 30 could be rescued as the rest of them were slaughtered,” GHSPCA member Soudharm Bhandhari said.
