30-year-old bike thief lynched in Sawai Madhopur, 4 held

Jaipur: A man was beaten to death and another injured in two separate cases of mob justice in Sawai Madhopur and Chittorgarh districts, repectively.

A mob lynched a 30-year-old man in Gangapur city of Sawai Madhopur on Friday night after he reportedly stole a bike.

Manish Tripathi, ASP, said that the deceased, Kushi Ram, had stolen a bike and was fleeing from the area with his aide when a local intercepted the duo.

While the aide fled, villagers fell upon Kushi Ram and thrashed him. Police arrested four people involved in the assault.

“The deceased has a criminal record. He was involved in ten cases of thefts,” a police officer said. The Sawai Madhopur police said they are trying to track down the other accused people in Kushi Ram’s lynching.

The Sawai Madhopur police registered two FIRs in the case. One, of the bike lifting, and the second related to Kushi Ram’s death.

In another case in Chittorgarh district, a youth was allegedly beaten up on suspicion of cattle theft by locals on Sunday. The video of the youth being dragged and beaten up locals went viral on social media.

Anil Kayal, SP of Chittorgarh, told TOI that they have identified the youth who was thrashed. “No FIR has been registered yet, but we have called his parents to come and give a complaint,” he said.
