300kg ganja smuggled in ambulance seized

Tirupur: The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau-CID (NIB-CID) seized 600kg ganja at Udumalpet in the district on Tuesday evening. About 300kg was seized while being transported in an ambulance and another 300kg was seized from a house.

Based on a tip, the sleuths stopped an ambulance at Sangili Street near Udumalpet police station.

“One of two men in the vehicle fled after seeing police,” a police officer said. The NIB-CID arrested M Arunkumar of Udumalpet, the driver-cum-owner of the ambulance.

On questioning, Arunkumar said another 300kg ganja was stored in his neighbour Karuppasamy’s house. Based on the information, the sleuths raided the house and seized the ganja packets. Karuppasamy was also arrested. A search is on for the accomplice who was with Arunkumar on the ambulance.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the ganja was smuggled from Tuni of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

They used a normal size ambulance to transport it from the neighbouring state, and then they switched it to the car ambulance, after sensing the police vigil.
