35-year-old woman killed, four others injured by stray bull in Mathura village

Mathura: In yet another incident of stray cattle wreaking havoc on the streets, a 35-year-old woman was killed and four others injured after a stray bull went on a rampage in Makrandgadhi village of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh. The victim has been identified as Harisha Devi.

Two children are among the injured in the bull rampage.

After the incident, local residents staged a massive protest against civic authorities' failure to curb the stray cattle menace.

According to a report, the local residents herded most of the stray cattle into a government school after the incident. During that time, the students were appearing for their exams. The incident forced the students to move out of the school and sit in open ground to write their exams.

The school official complained that they made the senior officials aware of the incident, but they ordered them to complete the exam by any means. The village residents have also demanded the shifting of stray cattle from the village.

The victim Harisha Devi was attacked by the stray bull when she went to feed her cattle early in the morning on Friday. The local residents came to the spot after hearing her screams. The husband's victim had died 10 years ago. Her daughter was scheduled to marry on November 28.  The bull also attacked four of them including two children aged 8 and 10.

The bull was sedated by veterinary officials before he was taken away for treatment. According to a veterinary official, the symptoms suggested that bull was suffering from rabies.

Four other bulls from the same village have also been diagnosed with rabies and were taken for treatment.

"This case is an exception. All the injured persons are being provided with medical treatment. We will try to provide all possible help to the family of the deceased," the report quoted Mathura District Magistrate Sarvagya Ram Misra as saying.

In a similar incident in January this year, a stray bull killed a Class 5 student after escaping from a temporary shelter in Badaun district.
