395 fresh Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh; 39 inmates, 2 jailers test positive

RAIPUR: The state reported 395 cases and 6 deaths on Thursday. 39 prisoners and two trainee assistant jailers were tested Covid positive in the Central Jain prison. These prisoners are reported to have contracted virus by a security guard, who had a travel history, said health officials.

With 10,932 total cases, the state tally stands too close to 11,000-mark.

The active cases stand at 2767.

However, one Covid death and five comorbidity deaths on Thursday rose the death toll to 77 in state.

In Central Jail, the screening of prisoners started when a security and one prisoner were found Covid positive on Tuesday. However, Jail administration has assured that the situation is under control and the jail is being sanitised and security has beefed up. The process of hospitalization of these prisoners under process, said health officials.

The fresh cases were reported from various districts including, 174 from Raipur , 53 from Durg, 37 from Bilaspur, 31 from Rajnandgaon, 19 from Raigarh , 12 from naval affected Narayanpur, nine from Janjgir-Champa, eight each from Korba and Balrampur, seven from Gariyabandh, six each from Balod, Mahasamund, Kanker, three from Jashpur , two each from Dhamtari, Baloda Bazar, Sarguja, Koriya, one each from Bemetara and Surajpur and few people from other state.

The deceased covid patient was a Raipur-based 47-year-old man who complained breathlessness since few days and succumbed during treatment on Thursday. While the comorbidity patients died due to chronic illness and were between the age group of 37 to 60 years old from Raipur, Mahasamund, Janjgir-Champa and Rajnandgaon.

Recently, RT-PCR Covid testing began at the Government Medical College at Ambikapur and Bilaspur Medical College this week. The testing will soon begin at the Rajnandgaon Medical College, officials said.
