4 girls drown in ditch filled with rainwater in East Champaran

Four minor girls drowned in a roadside ditch filled with rainwater while catching crabs and snails near Math Lohiyar village under the Harsidhi police station area in East Champaran district on Sunday. The victims were identified as Aarti Kumari (14), Puja Kumari (7), Pritam Kumari (10) and Aarti Kumari (10). SHO of Harsidhi police station Manoj Kumar said the bodies of four girls were fished out by the locals.



6 get life term in murder case: A Jehanabad court sentenced six persons to life imprisonment on Saturday for killing a woman in Jehanabad district 15 years ago. Fast track court (II) sessions judge Vinay Kumar Sinha, found six persons guilty and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them. The court also found them guilty for injuring another person and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on each of them. The judge also held them guilty under Arms Act and awarded two years of jail term.

Social worker passes away: Noted social worker Gauri Mishra, who helped revive the art of Madhubani paintings, passed away at a hospital in Darbhanga on Saturday. Popularly called 'Maaji', Mishra was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after she suffered a cardiac arrest. She was 86.
