400 fresh cases, 7 Covid-19 deaths in Jharkhand

RANCHI: Jharkhand on Friday reported 400 fresh cases of Covid-19, including an employee of the state secretariat, leading to the sealing of an entire floor of the office complex. A cabinet minister, who visited the secretariat where the employee tested positive, will be tested in the next couple of days, health department sources said.




The state also reported seven more deaths taking the toll to 76. The deaths included one patient from Garhwa, which reported its first Covid casualty. East Singhbhum reported two deaths and Hazaribag had one fresh casualty. Meanwhile, three Covid-19 deaths in Ranchi last week were also reported by the national health mission, state chapter, in its Covid-19 bulletin on Friday.

An Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) official said, "A 30-year-old man passed away during treatment at the Garhwa sadar hospital and two co-morbid patients died during treatment at Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur. An 80-year-old male, who was referred to Paras Hospital in Ranchi from Hazaribag, also died during treatment and was suffering from various chronic diseases."

Of the 400 fresh cases, 314 were detected on Friday while the remaining 86 were reported late on Thursday night. The state's cumulative caseload has risen to 7,564, of which 4,134 are active and 3,354 have recovered so far.

In Ranchi, the infections continue to grow and have crossed the 1,300-mark with a total of 1,343 cases. Those infected included a DSP-rank police officer posted at the city control room, a government Covid-19 lab in-charge and his wife. Garhwa saw a spike in Covid-19 cases with 57 fresh infections. Hazaribag (30), Ramgarh (25) and East Singhbhum (21) were among the districts which reported a significant rise.
