40kg ganja seized, 2 arrested in city

Mangaluru: In a major crackdown against substance abuse , Mangaluru City police nabbed two drug peddlers in Marakada and seized about 40 kg of ganja from them on Wednesday. Police also seized a car, weighing machine and cellphones from the two.

Kavoor police got a tip-off about two drug peddlers trying to sell ganja in huge quantity in their jurisdiction.

They raided and arrested them. The arrested are Iqbal , 34, and Fazal , residents of Kasaragod in Kerala.

Explaining their modus operandi, police said that the duo procured ganja from Andhra Pradesh.

They later transported the same to Bengaluru. To escape the police radar, the duo used to travel in the general compartment of trains running between Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru. After reaching Bengaluru, they would hire cars and transport ganja to Kasaragod. Later, they sold the drug at various places and Mangaluru was their major market.

Ganja estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh

The estimated value of the seized ganja has been put at Rs 12 lakh. A case has been registered under NDPS Act at Kavoor police station.
