42 bonded labourers freed from Kanchipuram and Vellore, includes children

Chennai: The Government has always claimed that bonded labour has been liberated from the country, but even today it is reported from some parts of the country. In Tamil Nadu, 42 bonded labourers from Kanchipuram and Vellore district were rescued from a wood cutting factory on Wednesday. This was done with the help of an NGO.

On the basis of the information of an NGO working on labour, the sub-juniors of Kanchipuram and Vellore inspected the wood cutting factory. Both the officers were surprised to see the actual situation there. Only 28 people were liberated from Kanchipuram. They included 19 children from eight families. After their release, the departmental officers concerned were informed in this regard. These labourers had the highest number of labourers in the age group of two to 15 years. They were given advances ranging from nine thousand to 25,000 rupees.

In addition, 14 bonded labourers were freed from Paruvaedu village of Vellore. They included six children from five families. Victims have accused the owner of the factory of starving. At the same time, there was a scuffle against the authorities. After freeing all the victims from bonded labour, the factory owner is on trial.
