478 BIT students receive degrees

PATNA: Total 478 undergraduate and postgraduate students and PhD scholars of Class 2018 of the BIT off campuses at Patna , Allahabad and Deoghar received their degrees at the graduation ceremony here on Saturday. Governor Lalji Tandon presided over the function.

Pratyaksha, a student of computer science and engineering department of BIT-Mesra (Patna), was conferred with the gold medal for being the overall topper in all departments in undergraduate courses.



Addressing the students, Tandon said the country has 65% young population. “It is necessary to make the youth self-reliant and they should utilize their talents in nation building. The government, under its Skill India programme, imparts relevant skill trainings to a large number of young people to help them secure better livelihood,” he said.

The governor further said: “Today, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan has laid the foundation for a very big social change. I have witnessed at the convocation ceremonies of almost all universities of Bihar that out of the 10 gold medals, seven on an average have been bagged by the girls.”

BIT-Patna director B K Singh presented the annual report of the institute and highlighted the important decisions taken in 2018. Singh said the students of BIT-Patna have proven their talent not only in the institute but also at various national and global technical and non-technical events.

State science and technology minister Jai Kumar Singh, BIT-Mesra vice-chancellor MK Mishra and other distinguished guests were also present at the ceremony.
