5 cops seek bribe for licence, suspended

LUCKNOW: Five police constables posted in Sitapur were suspended on Monday after a video showing them demanding bribe went viral.

The cops were posted in the office of circle officer Sidhauli, Sitapur. SP Sitapur LR Kumar has directed CO Biswan to conduct an inquiry into the charges.

In the 2 minute and 15 second video, which went viral on Sunday, constables were seen demanding Rs 3,000-4,000 from two unidentified persons for getting verification done for an arms licence.

. The video was shot at CO Sidhauli’s office but the man who shot it is yet to be identified.

The constables could be heard telling the duo that over 150 verification forms had come to CO Sidhauli office. They added that verification of only those applicants who pay the money would be done as the Election Commission could declare the model code of conduct and thereafter no licenses would be issued. The two unidentified persons were seen giving money to the cops in the clip.

“Constables seen in the clip — Yogesh Upadhyay, Himanshu Gangwar , Sanjay Patel, Pawan Kumar and Manoj Singh — have been suspended. They have been charged under Prevention of Corruption Act,” SP Sitapur said.
