5 held for theft of Khair trees

MOHALI: The police on Thursday arrested five persons for allegedly stealing 30 trees of Senegalia Catechu , popularly known as Khair trees, from the Nada forest.


The theft , which took place in the wee hours of September 7, was discovered when the forest officials went for the routine check on September 8 and found 30 Khair trees missing.

The officials investigated the matter themselves and searched the surroundings for clues. On September 10, they found an abandoned car containing tools and 16 Khair trees, and immediately informed the police.

A total of 16 trees have been recovered till now, said investigating officer sub-inspector Nishan Singh.

The arrests took place after raids were conducted by the Mohali police at different locations.
