5 IPS officers transferred, Siliguri gets new top cop

KOLKATA: The state government on Thursday shifted the police commissioner of Siliguri and transferred five IPS officers. Tripurari Atharv who was IG, IB (border) was appointed as the new commissioner of Siliguri police.


Three joint commissioners of Kolkata Police, along with some IPS officers, were transferred on Tuesday and Wednesday.



Murli Dhar was made new joint CP (crime) in the city. He was DC, STF earlier and posted as joint CP (traffic) in May.

Praveen Tripathi, who was joint CP (crime), has been posted as joint CP (armed police).

The state administration has been shifting IPS officers frequently ever since the results of the Lok Sabha polls were declared.

Bharat Lal Meena, who was the police commissioner of Siliguri, has been posted as DIG of Burdwan range.

In the constant process of IPS reshuffle, Tanmay Ray Choudhuri was again shifted from the post of DIG, Burdwan to DIG (traffic). He held the post of DIG, Burdwan during the Lok Sabha polls and was later given the charge of police commissioner of Howrah and then Barrackpore.

Following the violence in Bhatpara, Ray Choudhuri was posted as DIG, Burdwan. He was also posted in the economic offences wing.

Tamal Basu has been posted as IG, IB (border), while Basab Dasgupta has been made the IG of railways.
