53 years of serving, Chandigarh cops celebrate with parade

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police celebrated on Thursday its 53rd Raising Day at police lines in Sector 26 here. To mark the day, a parade was organised by various units of the UT police.

UT administrator and Punjab governor V P Singh Badnore was the chief guest on the occasion and took salute of the parading contingents.

Badnore was also given a guard of honour. Udaypal Singh, DSP, UT police, was the parade commander and inspector Malkeet Singh was the second in command.

Addressing the gathering, the administrator said the Chandigarh Police was raised with the strength of around 200 personnel on November 1, 1956. Initially, the UT police headquarters was situated at Ambala, which was later shifted to Chandigarh.

Badnore congratulated the UT police on its raising day and said the Chandigarh Police is one of the most discipline and hi-tech police forces in country. The administrator also congratulated the police department for successfully launching the single emergency number 112.

The Punjab governor also appreciated the initiative of DGP Sanjay Beniwal to impart skills to the children of various colonies under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna.

The parade ended with performances by the mounted police personnel. DGP Beniwal and DIG Omvir Singh Bishnoi also addressed the gathering on the occasion. Mandeep Singh Brar, UT deputy commissioner Nilambari Vijay Jagdale, SSP Shashank Anand, SSP (traffic) Shashank Anand and other senior officers, along with their families, attended the event.
