The Patel family set out from their home in Khedbrahma, all excited, to attend a wedding in Kutch. But they never made it to the wedding venue. Near Manaba village in Maliya taluka on Kutch-Morbi highway, their car collided with another car late on Friday evening. Six persons, including four from the Patel family, were killed on the spot.

Only one woman, identified as Vimla Patel, survived. She was rushed to a private hospital in Morbi for treatment.

According to available details, the Patel family was traveling towards Kutch when the driver lost control of the Chevrolet and it jumped the divider, colliding head on with an I 20 car. Four of the five occupants— Hari Devji Patel, Narsimh H Patel and his wife Narmada and Devji N Patel—were killed on the spot, said Maliya PSI J D Zala.

The occupants of the other car were brothers Sarrwin Shah and Kirit Shah, who were going from Gandhidham to Ahmedabad. They died on the spot in the accident. They were natives of Gandhidham and had settled in Paldi in Ahmedabad.

The Patel family, originally from Kutch, had settled in Khedbrahma several years ago. On Friday, they were travelling to Nakhtrana in Kutch to attend a wedding.
