67.55% of Ambala turnout, but for stray EVM glitches, a peaceful day

AMBALA: The sixth phase of the elections for 17th Lok Sabha have been held smoothly in Ambala . Except for a few technical glitches in the electronic voting machines (EVMs), no violence has been reported, say officials.

Till 8.38pm, around 67.55% (tentative) polling has been recorded in Ambala (reserved) parliamentary constituency.

Several volunteers have been witnessed helping the old-aged and specially-abled voters and residents seemed excited to exercise their right to vote.

Jasmer Kaur, 118-year-old woman of Mirjapur village in Naraingarh block of Ambala, and Parmanand, 104-year-old man of Kurali village in Ambala district also polled their votes.

Several leaders of various political parties also polled their votes in their respective areas.

Sandeep Kumar of Barara, a bridegroom, also visited polling booth in his wedding attire and polled his vote before leaving for procession. Sandeep said, “Getting married or not, it is important to exercise one’s right to vote.”

Initially, it was reported that there were delays in starting the election process, due to some technical glitches. Reportedly, the problem was set right. The district administration did not confirm any failure or problems in EVMs.

According to sources, in Nabipur village of Naraingarh block, the election had to be delayed for nearly 1.5 hours due to some problem in the EVM. The presiding officer had to replace the machine and then the voting went on smoothly.

Party booth workers of Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Lok Satta Party-Bahujan Samajwadi Party were spotted. Indian National Lok Dal, Jannayak Janata Party-Aam Aadmi Party did not have any representation.
