7 Covid deaths in state, active cases rise for 1st time in 5 days

Ranchi: Jharkhand recorded seven Covid deaths and 693 new cases in 24 hours until 10pm on Thursday, of which two deaths and 64 cases were reported late on Wednesday night. With 629 new cases on Thursday, Covid-19 cases in the state rose to 20,950, of which 7,728 are active, 13,013 have recovered and 209 have died.

In a concern for health officials, with 601 recoveries recorded on Thursday, the state has detected a surge in active cases for the first time in five days. During this period, the recovery rate improved by more than 12% -- from 49.5% on August 11 to 62.1% on Thursday.

Among the seven casualties, Dhanbad and Ranchi reported two each and Bokaro, East Singhbhum and Simdega recorded one each. “All deceased were ailing with comorbidities,” said an official. Of 629 fresh cases on Thursday, East Singhbhum continued to top the chart with 138 cases followed by Dhanbad with 79 and Ranchi with 78 cases. The positivity rate of samples tested stood at 9.1% with 629 of 6,897 tested returning positive.
