7 killed in separate road accidents

Chennai: Seven people from the city were killed in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours.


Ameer Ahamed, a third-year college student studying in the city, and his friend Mirza Ali, a computer engineer, both from Kerala residing in Arumbakkam, were returning to Chennai from Puducherry on a bike when they collided head-on with a state-run government bus at Pooncheri near Mamallapuram and died on the spot on Friday night.



Meanwhile, a 24-year-old motorist Satish, resident of Veppampattu, was heading towards his shop in Red Hills when he collided head-on with a lorry and died on the spot.

In another accident, near Madurantakam, three people who were returning to Mannargudi from Chennai airport died when their car collided with a private bus. Police said. Padmavathi, settled in Singapore, arrived at Chennai airport. Her son Manikandan, 25, son-in-law Velmurugan and her granddaughter Trisha, 12, picked her up and were heading to Mannargudi to attend a relative's wedding when Velmurugan lost control of the car near Melmaruvathur and drove into a median and then rammed a bus. Police said, "While Trisha was rescued and admitted to the Chengalpet GH, the other three died on the spot."

In yet another accident, Balasubbu, 23, a resident of Velachery, died after his bike hit a median near Vadapalani .
