7-year-old suffocates to death inside locked car in Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: A seven-year-old child suffocated to death after he got accidentally trapped inside a car in the city on Monday. The deceased was Bangaru Prem Kumar (7), a Class I student. His father Bangaru Vinod Kumar works as a domestic help at a naval officer's house.

Malkapuram police revealed that the naval officer on Monday had asked Vinod Kumar to clean his car.

When Vinod began cleaning the car around 9.30 am, his son Prem Kumar climbed inside the car to play. Vinod Kumar, who had not noticed his son climb into the back of the car, cleaned the car and rolled up all the windows and left around 10 am. Since the car has an auto-lock system, all four doors were locked and the child was unable to come out.

When he did not turn up for lunch, his worried parents began looking for him. At around 3.10 pm Vinod Kumar spotted his son lying unconscious inside the car. The boy was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Malkapuram police said it is possible the boy might have called for help, but as all the doors were locked nobody heard him. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and are investigating it.
