8 of a village die as van rams into RTC bus in Nalgonda dist

HYDERABAD: Eight persons travelling in a passenger minivan died and seven were injured after their vehicle hit a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus on Nagarjunasagar Road in Nalgonda district on Wednesday afternoon.


The accident occurred around 1pm, when one of the tyres of the van got punctured.

As a result, the driver lost control, veered over to the other side of the road and collided against an RTC bus coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was such that the van was mangled completely, and even the front portion of the bus was damaged. All the victims were from Kondamallepalli village.

“One person died on the spot and seven succumbed while undergoing treatment at a hospital. As of now seven of those injured are undergoing treatment. Initially all the injured people were taken to Devarkonda hospital from where they were moved to Osmania General Hospital ,” said Nalgonda superintendent of police Ranganath.

Among the dead, three were women. A case was registered under Section 304 A (negligence causing death) of IPC.

Such vans are commonly used by the locals as a mode of transport. At the accident spot, there was no median on the road. This led to the van veering over to the other side after its tyre got punctured.
