8-year-old girl raped by minor at Rajura

CHANDRAPUR: Even as protests are organized over abuse of tribal girls in Rajura, a fresh case of rape of eight-year-old girl has come to fore in Ashthabhuja Ward here. Ram Nagar police have arrested the accused juvenile boy from the neighbourhood and the court has sent him to the juvenile shelter home.

Sources said the survivor girl was alone at her home, since her mother had gone out for a job interview on Friday.

When she returned home in the afternoon, she found a juvenile boy from the neighbourhood sleeping at her house, while her daughter was crying. When she questioned the boy, he told her that he had came to watch TV. However, after the boy left home, the 8-year-old daughter told her about the abuse.

The mother filed a complaint on Saturday morning with Ram Nagar police station. Although offence under rape charges and sections of POCSO Act were registered, police allegedly did not give a copy of the FIR to the girl’s mother. She did not even know that offence had been registered against the accused. However, thanks to the help of MNS women’s wing city president Pratima Thakur, cops on Monday provided her a copy of the FIR. Thakur said that police had tried to persuade the victim’s mother not to lodge a complaint, but when she insisted an FIR was registered, but its copy was not given to her immediately.
