83 new Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 83 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, including 17 foreign returnees, who tested positive for the virus. Authorities said 12 of them are from Kuwait and all of them are being observed closely at a healthcare facility.

While the state's cumulative tally rose to 2,797, 11 of the 83 fresh cases are linked to Chennai's Koyambedu market.

Of the 153 Covid-19 cases of migrants from other states, 34 people recovered from the disease so far, including the eight discharges till Sunday morning. AP clocked over three lakh Covid-19 tests on Sunday.

The state took just 11 days to cross the milestone after completing the two lakh tests on May 13. The state, which took 48 days to conduct the first one lakh tests, carried out the second one lakh tests in 12 days. As many as 11,357 people were screened between 9 am on Saturday and 9 am on Sunday, the highest single day tests.

AP currently has 12 viral research and diagnostic laboratories and the officials are in the process of setting up two more labs in West Godavari and Vizianagaram districts.

Vizag city registered three new cases on Sunday, including two people placed in two different quarantine centres testing positive for the disease. According to Srikakulam officials, a part of the Government General Hospital in Srikakulam town is being converted into a Covid-19 hospital. Two persons, who returned from Vijayawada and Tirupati, were diagnosed with the disease on Sunday in East Godavari district.
